Americans apparently consume over 150 pounds of sugar a year! This is equal to three pounds of sugar per week! I know what you are thinking: THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE. Well, not if you realize sugar comes in many forms and in almost all packaged and processed foods and in juices, sodas, other bottled drinks, as well as, fruits and vegetables! Obviously, I want to focus on the ‘bad for you’ sugar in your diet, not the fructose that occurs naturally in fruits and vegetables which the body has no problem breaking down and converting to energy. The MAIN problem is HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP invented by a Japanese scientist. It made its way into the American food market in the mid-1970s because food manufacturers were not happy with the escalating prices of cane and beet sugar.
